Warsaw, 6 August 2024 – For many people, holiday travel is an opportunity to visit hotels in various parts of the world. Solutions gaining popularity in this type of facility are seamless resin floors. Apart from parking lots, where resin flooring has long been widely used, they can increasingly be found both in hotel lobbies and restaurants, and in the back rooms – in kitchens, social rooms and technical corridors.

Experts of the Flowcrete brand, a leading manufacturer of resin floors, present the most interesting global trends in the design of these systems in hotel facilities.

  1. Resin terrazzo – in the lobby, restaurant, children’s playroom

In representative spaces, including hotel lobbies, designers are increasingly incorporating the resin terrazzo floors into their projects and taking advantage of wide possibilities it offers. This elegant solution is based on coloured epoxy resin and natural marble aggregate (Mondéco Classic) or a mixture of granite and flint aggregates (Mondéco Earth). Repeated grinding and polishing operations give this floor a smooth surface with a subtle shine, making it look like natural stone.

The advantages of these flooring systems, apart from attractive, decorative looks, include high durability and abrasion resistance – they can withstand the loads associated with intense pedestrian traffic and the movement of wheeled suitcases. Importantly, epoxy terrazzo allows for freedom in design. The floors of this type can be made in almost any colour from the RAL palette and patterns can be made on them, e.g. hotel logos

  1. Durable industrial coatings in “staff only” zones

In areas with “employees only” access, the durability and functionality of flooring solutions are primarily important. Smooth and easy-to-clean single-colour systems, such as Flowshield LXP, are often used in social rooms. In technical corridors, resin coatings are used with quartz sand, which gives them an anti-slip finish. Shades of grey prevail in the trends, but these materials can be made in almost any colour.

  1. Solutions typical for the food industry in restaurant kitchens

Kitchens, where meals for hotel restaurants are prepared, are rooms with special requirements regarding floors’ chemical, thermal and mechanical resistance. For this reason, they often use durable systems originating from the food industry, e.g. polyurethane-cementitious floors from the Flowfresh group with the antimicrobial Polygiene® additive. These flooring systems are used in catering kitchens due to their properties such as easy-to-clean, seamless surface, resistance to intense pedestrian and trolley traffic, resistance to substances used in them and the possibility of cleaning them with warm water or steam under pressure.

  1. Stone carpets – a way to create attractive balconies, terraces and pool areas

Designers are constantly looking for original materials and technologies for swimming pool areas, which in hotels located in warmer climates are located outside, and for balconies and terraces connected with the guest rooms. Solutions that are becoming popular include a very impressive stone carpet resin floor, i.e. Rustik. These systems are made of marble aggregate and clear epoxy resin. They are made of rounded, small stones that are soft to walk on, commonly associated with a natural path.

  1. Resin coatings in underground car parks and landing areas

Resin floors in garages and car parks, e.g. polyurethane-quartz systems from the Deckshield group, are already a standard in higher-class hotels. Helipads are also designed in facilities providing hotel services. In the case of skyscrapers in city centres, they are located on the roofs of buildings, and in larger leisure and recreation complexes – at ground level. In this type of application, solutions based on polyurethane resins from the Deckshield group also prove well – most often, these are tailor-made systems with carefully specified thickness and anti-slip properties.

When designing hotel facilities, it is worth using the support of Flowcrete resin flooring experts, who, based on their knowledge and international experience, will propose solutions tailored to individual areas and rooms.
