1 March 2023

The BPCC has developed a good working relationship with ARMS, the Szczecin Metropolitan Development Agency for some time, and on 1 March, there was another joint meeting, this time focused on HR. Together with BPCC members KS Service and Déhora, presentations brought participants up to date with the latest macroeconomic developments in Poland and the Szczecin area, and explained how to deal with the latest challenges in the labour market, and an ever-more demanding generation of young employees.

After a welcome from ARMS’ president, Marek Kubik, Andrzej Kulpa from KS Service spoke about the organisational challenges that stemmed from the rapidly changing business reality. Michael Dembinski, the BPCC’s chief advisor, looked at the ‘known unknowns’ that would shape Poland’s macroeconomic reality in 2023 and beyond – Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, the Polish parliamentary elections, inflation and prospects for investment.

Łukasz Chodkowski from Déhora outlined the major trends in HR and how they shaped supply and demand on the labour market, while Marek Kubik’s presentation graphically illustrated how far Szczecin has developed as a powerful regional economy with great potential, with a focus on the offshore wind sector. The logistics sector is also doing well, with 85% of the city’s 1,150,000m2 of warehouse space appearing in the past six year.

After a networking coffee break, participants returned for a spirited panel discussion with the presenters, moderated by Michael Dembinski. Topics included the future of the office, how artificial intelligence and robotisation would affect the labour market, the four-day working week and the increasing importance of work-life balance (or work-life blend).

The event was very well attended by representatives of larger local employers as well as entrepreneurs, who participated actively in the discussion with the panellists. There was time for some more networking after the discussion.

The BPCC would like to thank ARMS, Déhora and KS Service for their participation in what proved to be an extremely successful and popular event.
