Executive Lunch with Lady Ashton – First Vice President of the European Commission (2010-14)
Diplomacy is all about persuasion – getting the other party to understand your point of view and then act upon it. Cathy Ashton (Catherine Margaret Ashton, Baroness Ashton of Upholland, GCMG, PC), rose from humble beginnings to become a member of the House of Lords and became then the EU’s top diplomat and European Commission’s Vice-President. She will be in Warsaw to share insights about her career in British and European politics during dramatic and turbulent times. During such crises as Haiti, Libya, Serbia and Kosovo or the Iran nuclear deal, Baroness Ashton proved herself repeatedly to be a brilliantly effective diplomat and negotiator.
Diplomacy doesn’t tend to play out well in media headlines – it is a slow process that takes place behind closed doors. So this will be a chance to hear directly from (in effect) the EU’s former foreign minister about the subtle and painstaking work to prevent or resolve conflict, the machinery of diplomatic world, and to gain an understanding of the personalities and skill-sets required to persuade.
Business leaders can compare and learn how closely diplomacy is related to business. Join us for a unique event!
The meeting will be conducted in English.
This executive lunch for senior managers will take place at Warsaw’s Hotel Mamaison Le Regina on ul. Kościelna 12 on Monday 27 March (13:00-15:00). Price 250zł + VAT.
