CMS named Pan-European Private Equity Legal Adviser of the Year

Marek Sawicki ranked in Band 1 by Chambers & Partners as part of individual nominations in the Private Equity category.

CMS was awarded ‘Pan-European Legal Adviser of the Year’ at the Private Equity Awards 2016. Now in its sixteenth year, these awards, hosted by Real Deals, are the oldest and most respected accolades bestowed on the private equity industry and those that advise it.

2015 was a standout year for the CMS Private Equity Group, which saw the team advise on some of the&nbp;biggest private equity deals. CMS was involved in three of the most important deals in the region which Real Deals selected for the finals of the “Emerging Europe Deal of the Year” award (sale of Good Food by Resource Partners, Pet Food by Advent International and the sale of home.pl by Value4Capital). Ultimately the sale of Good Food by Resource Partners, a transaction on which CMS advised the PE fund, was awarded deal of the year in CEE.

“In 2015 in Central Eastern Europe we advised on some of the highest profile deals in the region, including Advent’s sale of PPF and KAI, CVC’s acquisition of PKP Energetyka, V4C’s exit from home.pl and Innova’s acquisition of Trimo, to name a few,” said Graham Conlon, co-head of International Private Equity at CMS. “We have seen an encouraging start to 2016 and look forward to assisting our clients in acquiring interesting targets and maximising value on exiting their portfolio companies throughout CEE,” added David Butts, co-head of International Private Equity at CMS.

In addition to advising on transactions for the likes of CVC, Cinven, BC Partners and Advent, CMS acted on the UK’s largest buyout of 2015 – AMP Capital’s acquisition of a majority stake in Angel Trains, which has a value of over GBP 3.5 bn.

CMS has also strengthened its position on the Polish market. Marek Sawicki, the partner co-managing the Corporate Team in Warsaw, has been ranked in Band 1 by Chambers & Partners as part of individual nominations in the Private Equity category. CMS has also been recognised as one of the best law firms in Poland in the PE category (Band 2) and the best law firm in CEE in the Corporate/M&A category (Band 1).

CMS was also awarded the “Law Firm of the Year” in the last edition of the prestigious “Private Equity Diamond” competition organised in Poland by the Executive Club. The winner in this category is selected by popular vote of the members of the Polish Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, a group of private equity and venture capital investors active in Poland.
