COBCOE vice-chairman David Cracket explained that the judges had to compare growth in newer chambers with retention in mature chambers. The BPCC had successfully focused on big corporates at its events, particularly in the manufacturing sector, thereby attracting B2B service companies.
Winners of the Make Europe Work! Business Awards 2016 were also announced at the COBCOE gala dinner. The awards, which recognise strategic European trade development achievements, were sponsored by London City Airport.
The Breakthrough Trade Award was presented to AHDB Beef and Lamb, a division of the UK’s Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board, nominated by the BPCC. AHDB Beef and Lamb has generated a new demand for British lamb in Poland, taking it from a niche product to a supermarket staple worth an estimated £43 million in export sales over the next four years. Jean-Pierre Garnier, head of AHDB Exports, said: “The award is important for us. It’s a measure of the collaboration between the farming and food sectors, and the network of the BPCC.”
