As we return to our desks after a well-deserved summer break, it is a good time to reflect on the latest changes in the global and European economies and reset our compass bearings as to which way the Polish economy is heading. The BPCC has gathered together chief economists from leading banks to hear their forecasts for 2009 and beyond.

Panelists

Piotr Bujak Piotr Bujak, Senior Economist, BZ WBK

A Warsaw University graduate. He studied Management and Economic Sciences at Warsaw University. Since 2002 Piotr Bujak has been associated with the Treasury Division in Bank Zachodni WBK, where he is in charge of the analysis of domestic and global economies as well as financial markets. Previously, he was an economist at the Centre for Social and Economic Research (CASE) in Warsaw, where he participated in many international advisory projects. He is member of the Polish Association of Business Economists and the author of several scientific publications and numerous articles published in daily newspapers and specialist press.

Jaroslaw Janecki, Chief Economist, Societe Generale

From 1994 to 1999 and 2002 to 2006 he worked at the Finance Ministry. He was Main Specialist at the Public Debt Department and Advisor to the Minister in the Financial Policy, Analysis and Statistics Department. He participated in state budget projects and convergence programmes. He also cooperated with EU institutions and was a representative of the Finance Ministry in OECD working groups.

From 2000 to 2002 Jaros³aw Janecki was a consultant in the international consulting firm Globalpraxis, where he was involved in advisory projects in the FMCG and telecommunications sectors.

Jaros³aw is a graduate of £ód¼ University and has an Executive MBA degree from studies organised jointly by £ód¼ University and the University of Maryland. He is the author of many publications in the field of macroeconomic analysis.

Marcin Mróz, Chief Economist, Fortis Bank S.A.

Graduated from Warsaw School of Economics. In 1997 started career as a market economist. Till 2001 worked as a regional economist / strategist in Wood and Co., responsible for macro and market analysis of Central and Eastern Europe. In 2001 joined Societe Generale as a Senior Economist covering Polish economy. Since 2006 Chief Economist in Fortis Bank Poland. Author of numerous articles. Member of Polish Association of Business Economists.
Wieslaw Szczuka, Chief Economist, BRE Bank

Chief economist of BRE Bank since March 2006. For many years associated with the Ministry of Finance, where he held, among others, the positions of the director of Foreign Departament and Vice-Minister responsible for public debt management and international relations. Played a significant role in restructuring and reducing Poland’s external public debt and in introducing Polish Treasury securities to the international capital market. In years 1997-2004 worked as an Alternate Executive Director of the International Monetarny Fund in Washington. Served also at the Polish Embassy in Tokio.

Graduated from the Foreign Trade Faculty of the Warsaw School of Economics, where he later spent almost 14 years doing research work with a focus on international finance. Graduated also from the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.

Here is the schedule for the following BPCC Business Breakfasts in 2008. Speakers and topics will be updated as and when they are confirmed.

Please note the specific locations for each breakfast. This year breakfasts will be held at Le Royal Meridien Bristol, Le Regina and Polonia Palace Hotel.

Registration always begins at 08:00 and breakfasts start at 08:30.
