InterContinental Warszawa and Warsaw-Wilanów International Rotary Club cooperating on a unique charity project, helping children and needy people in one of the poorest areas in Poland.
At the InterContinental Warszawa employees collect on an ongoing base for poor children and needy people in Radzin Podlaskie, one of the poorest areas in Poland. A big box in the back of the house has been set up in a very frequented a place in order to ensure best information and easy access. On a regular base the collected items, which are clothes, shoes, toys and other useful objects are transported to the region for distribution.
It is very common that companies support charity organisations and projects with money donations, or buy goods which are then donated. Such activities get particularly popular before Christmas. But the InterContinental Warszawa had the idea to do something different and to give all their employees the chance
to participate in the project and give them the possibility to directly help people in need by collecting goods together and on an ongoing base, throughout the year. The idea behind this: If every employee gives a little, all of them together, and there are about 300 employees in the hotel, can really make a difference. The hotel also gave their long stay residents the possibility to donate collected items, and therewith be part of the project.
Since September this year 3 big transports have been already organised and with these goods nearly 100 people have been dressed from head to foot and have also received other items, which are being of great use and support for them. This has been valued by the people in Radzin Podlaskie when representatives of the InterContinental Warszawa and the Warsaw-Wilanów International RC went to visit the day centre in December. What they value most is the fact that people help together bit by bit in order to provide direct help.

“It was a simple idea, everybody giving a little to make a big difference for many people, but it is also having a positive effect on the employees, who now are even more motivated to continue this great initiative, knowing that their collections are really delivering direct help to many disadvantaged people in the Radzin Podlaskie region.” says Alexandra Zopf, the Marketing & PR Executive at the InterContinental Warszawa, who is the initiator of this special project.
The whole project is organised in cooperation with the Warsaw-Wilanów International Rotary Club, which is already supporting the area for several years. The club has built up a great local network, working together with Tomasz Mańko, a protestant priest, who is very engaged in helping children and needy people. With the help of Warsaw-Wilanów International RC as well as the help of member companies and other helpful hands, he locally initiated a day centre, where children can come and spend their afternoons, having people taking care of them and spending time with them. Workless people come in and use the computers and the internet to search for jobs. The kitchen cooks 3 times per week for old people,
in order to provide them with a proper meal. The local organisation is handling all donations in the most effective way, making most out of it for the people
in need. |
