13th November 2008
Hrabski Hotel, Falenty, Poland
The British and Polish agrifood sectors to meet again!
BPCC SECTOR FORUMS SERIES
The twelfth in the highly successful series of British Polish sector forums organised by the BPCC will take place on 13th November in Warsaw. The sector forum series has been designed to increase participant’s sector knowledge and also to facilitate face-to-face meetings between potential future business partners. And as always, the BPCC is trying to bring the UK and Poland closer together!
BRITISH POLISH AGRIFOOD FORUM
Conference – B2B – Exhibition For the third time in as many years, the BPCC is holding its annual British-Polish Agrifood Forum. This popular event brings together food producers, processors and buyers from the UK and Poland, updating delegates from both countries as to the latest market trends. Two parallel seminar sessions are held in the morning, one in Polish about the UK agrifood market, and one in English focused on the Polish agrifood market. In the afternoon, face-to-face matchmaking enables delegates to get down to business with other companies. During the event, a major food exhibition gives delegates, visitors and the media a chance to taste the very best in Polish and British food.
Opportunities to partner the event, or put yourself forward as a speaker or media patron, by all means exist. Please get in touch if you would like to get involved, or to pre-book an exhibition stand.
TRADE INFO
Looking a bilateral trade between Poland and the UK, 2007 has been another boom year in terms of agrifood produce. UK sales to Poland grew by 26% to ₤71m, while Polish sales to the UK grew by 38% to ₤386m.
Although headlines focus on Scotch whisky exports to Poland rising by 60% to ₤16m, while Polish beer and sausage exports to the UK rose by 57% and 15% respectively, there’s many other rapid-growth areas of agrifood trade burgeoning.
The 20% fall in the value of the pound against the zloty over the past year (indeed 35% fall since Poland joined the EU) has caused many British food products to be more competitive on the Polish market than they ever were. At the same time, Polish consumers are more prosperous due to rapidly-rising wages, and so are increasingly willing to experiment with new tastes. Polish migration to the UK is slowing down and evidence suggests that many migrants are returning home to find work closer to their families. They will return having sampled many typical British foodstuffs that are unavailable in Poland.
