The beginning of the first stage of Global Management Challenge competition (26th of May) was also the start in rivalling for World Finals in Lisbon. This year, a record breaking number of teams competes (371!), among them there are student and firms' representations.
The participants task is to successfully rival for clients, investors and workers, by creating a strategy of their own virtual company competing on an international market. A team's efficiency is measured based on their company's share price.
Global Management Challenge/Euromanager is the polish edition of an international venture in which 28 countries participate. Simultaneous national editions select the world's elite of virtual management. GMC is the biggest and most sophisticated management competition for managers as well as students.
Polish editions are held under honorary patronage of The Warsaw Stock Exchange and National Bank of Poland. Contest's organization is possible thanks to the involved sponsors: Millennium Bank, Deloitte, MARS Poland, METRO Group and Telekomunikacja Polska. Since year 2000, over 10 000 people took part in polish national editions of GMC.
Next to managers, most talented and ambitious students from all around Poland also compeete to become GMC Champions. This year's competition is between managers of companies such as: BGŻ Bank, BP Poland, Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, IDM Brokerage House, Euro Bank, Generali, Bank Zachodni WBK, Kulinaria, Media Markt, Makro Cash and Carry, Philips Lighting, RWE Stoen, ZPC Mieszko and many others.
Teams have already finished training program which was their introduction to the virtual competition. They know the rules and basic mechanisms of the simulation. "During the training period we have decided to focus on ideas that we thought to include the highest risk, so in the real play we could know their results. In our opinion, the competition gives all participants grate opportunities to broaden one's knowledge and improve abilities" – say members of "Wonderteam".
The first stage of competition began on the 26th of May. All teams were randomly divided into groups (http://www.gmcpoland.pl/?page=354), in which they rival to achieve the highest share prices. Second round will be held during September - October 2008. Only 128 teams will enter the second stage of the contest and compete to become one of 8 finalists.
