The labour market in Poland lacks construction workers and engineers

according to just published "Specialist labour market in Q3 2007” drawn up by consultants from Grupa Pracuj.
In Q3 2007 number of job offers from chemical, building and real estate industries reported an increase. The demand for specialists dealing with transports and logistics is also growing. Trade and sales have maintained a leading position –these have been results from the periodical report “Specialist labour market in Q3 2007” drawn up by Pracuj.pl consultants.

The labour market is still growing dynamically. Total quarterly job offers (53,886) has gone up by over 22 thousand as compared to the benchmark in 2006, and by 6 thousand as compared to Q2 2007.

In Q3 2007 trade and sales still remain the cash cow of the ranking. Classifieds from this sector constitute 17.6% of total job offers. The heavy industry providing every tenth employment opportunity goes second, while the third position is taken by the finance industry, where the percentage share (9.2%) reported a slight drop against the previous quarter. The top five also comprises light industry as well as building and real estate industries, the latter ones leaping from 6 up to 4 place, as compared to the results in the previous quarter. Boosting demand for specialists from these sectors reflects continuous upturn on the real estate market.

- Lack of qualified staff may undoubtedly affect negatively the dynamics of growth in the building industry. Right now, there are not enough employees and we have to be aware that we are about to face up investments related to EURO 2012. It is likely that we will have to hire foreigners – comments Przemysław Gacek, CEO of Grupa Pracuj, an owner of the recruitment portal Pracuj.pl.

The highest percentage growth, as compared to the previous quarter (over 43%) and year-to-year figures (132%), was reported in the chemical industry. It was similar to the transport and logistics, generating 1000 more job offers than in Q3 2006.

Analysing Q2 2007 as well as the same period in 2006, the share of workplaces offered by telecommunications and advanced technologies has slightly fallen. Moreover, the downturn also affected tourism, hotel and catering industries, however the most significant drop was related to legal services, which provided 1/3 job offers more in the Q2.

IT specialists still very much in demand

The increase in demand for building industry specialists has been also confirmed in the analysis of job offers using “Department in corporations” criterion. In the Q3 2007 engineers and construction workers could select in classifieds, which made 10% of total job offers. More vacancies (by roughly 600 positions) were aimed at employees from logistics, freight forwarding and transport industries than a year ago. Comparing to Q2, the labour market witnessed the real boom (by over 80%) in job offers provided for employees of IT departments, such as Internet and e-commerce. Analysing the results from the Q3 fewer employees were searched for human resources and legal departments as in the previous quarter.

    - There is an increasing demand for IT people, particularly e-commerce and the Internet specialists. I am convinced that it is a consequence of strong ratings of Polish companies on the European Internet market. My thesis is approved by results of the latest 12-th edition of the prestigious Technology Fast 50 ranking, with as many as 4 Polish enterprises listed in the top 10 – says Przemysław Gacek.

Temporary changes on regional markets

Mazowsze province still holds the highest position in the regional ranking in terms of number of job offers. Yet, taking into account a significant growth of total classifieds, the share of this region in total number of job offers has dropped by approx. 3% as compared to the Q3 2006. However, the provinces which reported the largest growth within the analysed period comparing to Q2 2007 were: Lubuskie, Świętokrzyskie, Wielkopolskie and Pomorskie.
Comparing to Q3 2006 the most significant rise in number of job offers occurred in Łódzkie (by 108%), Wielkopolskie (by 102%) and Zachodniopomorskie (by 100%) provinces.

- Mazowsze province is still the readiest labour market, even though its contribution to the total job offers begins to fall down, giving priority to other, rapidly emerging regions. This is good news, especially for those who consider returning from abroad back to their hometowns – adds Przemysław Gacek.

The report „Specialist labour market” was drawn up on a basis of the analysis including 53,886 job offers, which were advertised in Pracuj.pl portal in Q3 2007. The analysis solely refers to corporation job offers provided for university degree employees. It does not contain offers submitted by public offices or proposals aimed at students or manual workers.
