ACCA contributes to the development of robust audit regulation in Poland

ACCA is part of a consortium of management consultants which has been appointed by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Poland to advise on Audit Quality Assurance and the implementation of the European Union's revised Eighth Directive on Company Law. The consortium includes BPP Poland and International Management Consultants Limited.

The project commenced in January 2007 and is scheduled for completion in July.

ACCA's role will be to advise on the implementation of a robust Audit Quality Assurance Programme to enable the Polish National Chamber of Statutory Auditors (Krajowa Izba Biegłych Rewidentów) to ensure that audit reports issued by Polish audit firms are reliable, thereby protecting the public interest. In addition, ACCA will advise on disciplinary arrangements, which form an important part of the regulation of the professional conduct of auditors.

Peter Large, Executive Director-Professional Standards at ACCA commented: "We are delighted to have been selected to assist the National Chamber of Statutory Auditors in ensuring that firms in Poland conduct audit work to a good standard. In particular, we very much welcome this opportunity to work with the National Chamber, which is the statutory regulator of auditors in Poland. We will use our own considerable experience of Audit Quality Assurance and disciplinary arrangements gained as a statutory regulator of auditors in the United Kingdom and Ireland, to ensure that Poland has a quality assurance programme and disciplinary arrangements that conform to the highest international standards."
