Thomas Schoen has been appointed General Manager Sheraton Warsaw Hotel and Area Manager for Poland S |
Thomas will succeed Gerd Bauer who after over 40 years of career in
hotel industry of which last 12 were in Poland decided to spend more
time with his wife in a house in Madera, which he has bult 18 years
ago.
Symbolically handing the masterkeys "opening all the doors and the
world of opportunities" to his successor Gerd said: "I came here bacjk
in February 1995 with a common Western perception of Poland as
an underdeveloped country. Shortly after I've found out that Poland
is a beautiful country, full of wonderfull creative people and
excellent business opportunities. I can safely say that the last 12
years were the best in my life. Now the time has come to make space for
younger people," said Gerd. "I know Thomas for ten years, so I know the
work will continue in similar style and pace. I wish Thomas and
the team a lot of good luck."
Gerd has been in charge of Sheraton Warsaw Hotel, first Starwood
Hotels & Resorts investment in Poland, which opened for business in
May 1996 - since 1995. During his assignment in Poland Starwood has
gained five more hotels: The Westin Warsaw; Le Royal Meridien Bristol
in Warsaw, Sheraton Krakow, Sheraton Poznan and Sheraton Sopot Hotel,
Congress Center & Spa (currently under construction).

During the 12 years in Poland Gerd made many Polish friends. His great
pride is development of Polish Executives from Rank & File
positions to Executive/Management Positions. He hopes that thanks to
direct flights to Madera
His professional life is dedicated to hospitality business, and since
1990 connected with Starwood brands. Thomas Schoen has worked on the
various positions from Front Office and F&B to top management
positions; his experience includes also quality management as Six Sigma
Black Belt.
Mr. Schoen arrived to Poland from Austria; recently Thomas Schoen
worked as General Manager of two landmark hotels in Vienna: Imperial
and Bristol. His previous assignments included Republic of Georgia,
Bulgaria, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Scotland and Germany.
Thomas Schoen is married and has three children: 4, 11 and 12 years old. |
