Professor Jerzy Rajski has joined the Warsaw offices of Lovells. He
will lend support to the office team with his knowledge and experience,
particularly with respect to civil and international commercial law.
Professor Rajski graduated from Warsaw University’s Faculty of Law in
1955, where he also completed his doctorate in law (1960) and then
became a doctor of law habilitations (1969). He also completed the
International Faculty of Comparative Law in Strasbourg (1962).
In the course of being awarded further academic titles at Warsaw
University, Prof. Rajski exercised a number of important functions
there, including that of head of the Civil Comparative Law Chair,
vice-dean responsible for Scientific and International Affairs, and
director of the Institute of Civil Law. During his long-standing
academic career, Prof. Rajski has lectured at many foreign institutes
of further education as a professor, including the Universities in
Paris (I-Panthéon-Sorbonne, II-Panthéon-Assas, X-Nanterre and Grenoble
II), the University of California in Berkeley and McGeorge (Sacramento,
California). He has also been a visiting lecturer at many other foreign
universities in Europe, the United States, Canada and Japan.
Since 1968 Prof. Rajski has acted as arbitrator in over 300 cases, and
has participated in ad hoc arbitrations in many countries. In 2001 –
2005 he exercised the function of Vice-president of the Court of
Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce.

Prof. Rajski, who in 1989 – 1992 was a government and parliamentary ad
hoc expert, has taken part in legislative work concerning the
privatization of state enterprises, securities and stock markets, and
foreign investments. He has also served as member of the Commission for
Civil Law Reform established by the Minister of Justice (1986 – 1996)
and the Civil Law Codification Commission (1996 – 2002). Since 1999 he
has been a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Study Group on a
European Civil Code.
Prof. Rajski is a member of a number of editorial and scientific
boards. He is also a member of the International Academy of Commercial
and Consumer Law, the Polish Academy of Skills, the International
Academy of Comparative Law, the Institute of Global Commercial Law at
the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, the Academy of European
Private Lawyers, and the Société de Législation Comparée in Paris.
Prof. Rajski is the author of 5 books and over 200 contributions
published in more than 20 countries in the fields of international
business law, contract law, commercial law, international civil
procedure and international commercial arbitration. |
