Tesco supports construction of foster family homes

Foster family homes will be financed by Tesco Polska. Today, we are launching for the fist time “Tesco Charity of the Year” campaign aimed at supporting construction of foster family homes. Between 27 May and 1 June Tesco will donate 1 grosz from each transaction for construction of such homes. Tesco will be collecting money for this purpose throughout the year. Therefore, everybody who will do any shopping in a Tesco store will help orphaned and abandoned children.
A week's programme before the Children's Day is but the beginning of “Tesco Charity of the Year” campaign in which the company is planning to donate 1 m PLN to construction of foster family homes. Tesco has been helping children for years, therefore this year it wants to offer help to children without families. In many experts' opinion, foster family homes are the best solution for children who for various reasons have lost their parents. They offer the best conditions for appropriate development of children, especially these who suffer greatly an unhappy fate. However, in Poland there are relatively few foster family homes because their construction requires big investments and satisfaction of many stringent requirements.
Attainment of this year' objective will be supported by “Happy Kids” Foundation from Łódź that for 6 years have been specialising in establishing foster family homes in this region. Łódzkie Voivodeship is one of the three voivodeships with the biggest number of children's homes. There are 43 such places there that bring up almost 2700 children.

“So far we have managed to open 3 foster family homes where 21 children have found their refuge. We believe however that thanks to Tesco's and its customers' commitment we will be able to build another places where instead careers and tutors children will find their loving mum and dad,” says Aleksander Kartasiński from “Happy Kids” Foundation.
All over the year, Tesco will be raising funds for construction of foster family homes from various sources: further campaigns of donating 1 grosz from every transaction, sale of dedicated products, money collections organized among customers and staff's initiatives. A good example of Tesco staff's and customers' commitment to raising funds for construction of foster family homes was donation of 1% of income tax. Ryszard Tomaszewski, Tesco Polska CEO, did it first.
“Through donation of 1% of my income tax to “Happy Kids” Foundation I wanted to show our people that together we can make children grow in good conditions, in families full of love and warmth,” said Ryszard Tomaszewski, Tesco Polska CEO.
Tesco Charity of the Year campaign will end in February/March 2009. Then “Happy Kids” Foundation will start looking for the best place to build its new foster family home that will be erected thanks to support of Tesco customers and staff.”
