The Global Snapshot

A survey of hiring and firing trends in key employment markets around the world

Although it is often said that we now live and work in a global marketplace, economic conditions can still vary dramatically from country to country. As a result the demand for capable and suitably qualified managers and professionals is by no means consistent, even across nation states that share a common border. Consequently the ‘war for talent’ as defined by the strategy consultancy, McKinsey & Co, may rage on one side of a political frontier, whilst on the other, individuals are almost literally queuing up for work.

The solution to such anomalies is, of course, a more fluid international labour market. Within some regions, such as the European Union, barriers are dropping all the time. Yet at the same time we see countries such as the UK and Germany suffering acute localised skills shortages due to an unwillingness to admit sufficient numbers of relevant workers from the developing world.

The Antal International ‘Global Snapshot’ is a quarterly survey of hiring (and firing) trends in some of the world’s most important employment markets and in those likely to join this group over the coming decade. This particular report is based upon material sourced from over 1500 businesses in commerce, industry and the financial services sector in 14 countries on three continents. We hope that you find it both interesting and useful. Tony Goodwin Chairman and CEO Antal Internationa
