Manufacturing

Tools for the advanced manufacturing revolution

Renishaw is one of the world's leading engineering and scientific technology companies, with expertise in precision measurement and healthcare.

The company also makes advanced metal-based manufacturing systems (3D printing).

Renishaw company, founded 45 years ago, provide products and services to users in many areas such as the aerospace, automotive, defence, machine industries and healthcare (dentistry and brain surgery). Renishaw provides its clients with the ability to perform geometric measurements easily, quickly and in accordance with standards referenced to patterns, while helping manufacturers integrate modern technologies with existing ones.

The Industry 4.0 concept – network connections, robotisation and process automation – is a trend observed for several years. Renishaw has been introducing intelligent solutions for controlling production processes. An example of this is the integration of Renishaw’s measuring systems with production systems – with machine tools and robots. The firm’s Equator product – high-speed comparative gauging for inspection of high-volume manufactured parts – can work directly with a robot and CNC machine, providing continuous information on dimensional deviations that help control the production process. These types of solutions allow manufacturers to increase productivity and improve quality.

The automotive supply chain is an important part of Poland’s manufacturing industry. Poland has a great many firms that produce car parts, and that number is growing rapidly. For the automotive industry, Renishaw makes the new Equator500 production test solution, which is characterised by speed, repeatability and ease of use in manual and automatic applications. Equator 500 allows manufacturers to measure objects up to 500 mm in diameter and up to 400 mm high. Intelligent Process Control (IPC) software allows manufacturers to automate process control and to adjust directly to CNC machine control systems.

Many Equator gauges are built into automated production cell, the result of growing demand from manufacturers for fully automated production in ‘smart factories’. This solution allows you to control and optimise processes, reduce downtime of CNC machines and increase production efficiency.

Manufacturers are aware that the replacement of old tooling for a new generation of equipment allows for a shorter production cycle. To remain competitive, manufacturers around the world must meet demand for items made with the greatest accuracy and in the shortest production cycle. This requirement, combined with the need for factory automation, requires innovative solutions in the field of measurement integration with the production process that we offer.

Renishaw has factories in Great Britain, Ireland and India. As a manufacturer with extensive experience in process control we help partners apply a high level of automation in their production processes. By introducing Renishaw technologies that provide data and enable intelligent decision making in factories that are already implementing Industry 4.0, the idea gains in practical significance.

R&D has always been at the heart of Renishaw's operations. One of the developing areas is the additive manufacturing of metal structures (3D printing), which allows system’s users to produce parts that can’t be made by traditional methods of casting or machining.

Renishaw's advanced additive metal production systems manufactured by the company are designed for use in those industries where strength, customised geometry and precision are the most important factors. These are such industries as: tooling, automotive, aerospace and biomedical.

The advanced RenAM 500Q multi-laser system for additive manufacturing using powder-melting technology and a software package that includes production preparation procedures, remote monitoring of the process. The RenAM500Q is equipped with four lasers which significantly increases the system's productivity, shortening manufacturing time of complex parts in comparison to single-laser solution.

When it comes to the tooling industry, 3D printing opens new possibilities, unavailable in the case of casting, forging or machining technologies. Manufacturing times can be significantly shortened, and the plastic injection mould technology becomes more efficient due to the quick heat dissipation. Also, the time of effective exploitation of the injection mould is significantly extended.

There are high expectations regarding the use of additive technologies in the aviation industry. Of course, this is one of the main trends of research due to the exceptional economic situation and prospects of aviation development in the coming years. Parts manufactured by metal 3D printers are increasingly being validated by leading aviation manufacturers for specific applications like turbine blades, fuel and auxiliary systems seems to be the key ones at present.

Another area of growing importance is Raman spectroscopy (a technique used in chemistry to provide a structural fingerprint by which molecules can be identified), applicable in pharmacology, forensics, semiconductors and the chemical industry. Being a leader in the field of Raman spectroscopy, Renishaw produces systems and instruments to identify and characterise the chemical properties of materials.

Follow the latest developments from Renishaw on the firm's website [www.renishaw.com]  and in the social media [Twitter: @renishawplc, Facebook: @RenishawEngineering, LinkedIn, YouTube: Renishaw]. The firm invites you to visit it next year at Automaticon in Warsaw, Stom in Kielce and Mach-Tool in Poznań."

The firm has a learning and exhibition centre in Warsaw, to which all manufacturers are invited.
It is a meeting place where customers can get acquainted with products, take part in training, and choose the right solutions to increase the efficiency of their production processes.

Renishaw provides full technical support for original equipment manufacturers, importers, distributors and end-users in the field of products such as probes for coordinate measuring machines and CNC machine tools, calibration systems, rulers and universal Equator gauges. The company's clients will also be able to use the assistance of specialists dealing with additive production and Raman spectroscopy systems.
